Records, 1827-1829.

Letterbook, October 1827-1828, and journal, Sept. 1827-April 1829, document the business of the store. Letterbook has handwritten copies of letters dealing with the problems of the store including the transport of goods to the area, exchanges in goods, and problems with payment. Two journals, one used for invoicing the goods and the other for sales listing name of buyer, what and how much bought and price.

In 1827 Charles R. Gatton and Pascal Enos, Sr. went into business together with a general merchandise store located in the growing new city of Springfield, Ill.
